One of our most anticipated events of the year at The Giving Tree is our Helping Hands day of service. This year it was faithfully planned for Saturday, March 14.
Yet, we couldn’t anticipate that would be the beginning of the end of the normal that we all knew.
To say we were disappointed is an understatement. We got calls from parents, educators, and volunteers saying how sad they were that the annual event was not going to be held.
That’s when the lightbulb went off and thought why don’t we just do these things remotely? People are still in need, now even more so. The need hasn’t diminished, the need has changed. And the underlying need of teaching children to give back is more important than ever for our next generation of leaders, doctors, politicians, and teachers!
Our Take-Home Service Kits have been so well-received and have provided hours of activity for so many children while resulting in much-needed items for at-risk people and frontline health and community workers.
“My son and daughter had such fun in completing the at-home projects from the Giving Tree! And I felt so good knowing they were learning that they could make a difference for others- even from home!” Said Lara Allan of Lower Gwynedd.
